If you played and loved the original Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles game, this game is not what you would expect. This final fantasy crystal chronicles: echoes of time is still a great multiplayer, and a great game to boot.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time is a multiplayer action RPG game for the Nintendo Wii and DS. You can actually play with people with different system. You can only have one person with the wii though….
Echoes of Time does not take it’s gameplay from the original game. It takes its gameplay from Rings of Fate, another great game. These two games have similar gameplay so if you love Rings of Fate you’ll love this too.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time Gameplay
If you have played Rings of Fate you should know how Echoes of Time is played.
The goal in the game is to get to the end of the map and defeat the boss, just like most action RPG games.
The Races
When you first start the game you get to choose 4 races:
Yukes – They specialize in magic. In the end game, they are able to stack up 5 spells at once (the only race able to use the spell ultima by themselves). Besides the magic stats, they aren’t much. When Yukes attack they throw a magic bomb that causes an area attack.
Clavats – They specialize in defense. These guys are the humans of the game, and they are balanced. They can stack up to 4 spells by themselves (strong enough to cast fireza). They have they’re famous 5-hit combo.
Lilties – These guys specializes in attack. Lilty are short plant creatures that attack, attacks, and attacks. They can only stack up to three magic spells at once at endgame. They have a 3 hit combo with their last hit a giant finisher.
Selkies – These guys are the speed type, they use charged attacks faster then any other class. They are humans too, except they all look more… feminine. They are the only class that can double jump. They can only stack 3 spells together. At endgame they can shoot 5 arrows at once.
Personally, I feel that Lilties and Yukes got the short end of the stick. Cavalats has 5 hit combos and they can already cast the strongest versions of basic spells.
Playing through the game
This wii/ds game takes you through all sorts of places, frozen mountain, volcanoes, a forest, etc. However, this game does not have as many levels as the original.
You start out in your village (no family system), then as the game continues you are forced to travel around the rather limited world with dungeons.
In every dungeon there are monsters, you can attack and use magic to kill them. Some are weak against magic or just a specific element. It’s all in real time of course.
When you kill monster they drop items. Some of them drop orbs where you can use to increase your magic power (so if you don’t need them let us Yukes get them
).
Unlike previous games, you already have all your magic with you. Instead you have to use mp to cast them. As you get higher level you can stack spells together to make them stronger.
To Be The Best
Since this is a wi-fi game, you would want to go online and show the world what you are made of with your superior stats.
To do that you have to use gems. Gems can have all sorts of effect like increase your stats, to increase you abilities (like picking up bigger monsters), and even increase your stat growth when you level up.
The key to making a character with near max stats is to use the gems to increase your total stat growth. There are stat growth gems for every single stat, including magic resistance and elemental power.
This is important, because every character race has stat growth (the amount of stat points they get for each stat (attack, defense, magic, etc) per level). The problem here is that all races has the same growth so by having growth gems you will increase your stat growth every level for one specific stat
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time Multiplayer
You can do everything you can do in Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time multiplayer in single player. In fact you can even do more things with 4 players then with yourself.
You can connect with friends:
- Locally with friends around you.
- Nintendo WFC with your friends or even random people (don’t you just love the random people?).
All you have to do to get connected on Nintendo WFC is to go to one of those save crystals, and then there it is, a option for multiplayer, locally or Wi-Fi.
Friend code is, like usual, necessary for you to play with your friends.
Multiplayer Mode
You can do anything you can do in single player in multiplayer mode. The only difference is that if you don’t have people to play with you can bring 3 other characters to play through the stages with.
As a 4-player action RPG game you guys can role play roles for each other, mess around or do what I love to do…
…grab your friends and then chuck them off of a cliff.
However, the biggest regret I had was when I decided to “cheat the system”. I grabbed one of my friends and threw him to places we shouldn’t be able to reach. It worked at first, but… I threw him to a place where we couldn’t reach each other. So in an attempt to fix things, we both jumped off of the buildings trying to kill each other so we can go back to where we were. It didn’t work… you can’t kill each other in the game… just mortally wound them.
Quest Mode
There are tons of quest you can do. Some of them are multiplayer quests that let us kill monsters for awards, collect items, and saving cows from UFO abduction.
However, the most important thing you may want to do is gladiator mode. Gladiator mode is a 4-player battle for everybody to kill each other. This is where you put your skills to test by defeating your friends with supreme combos or gigantic pyre explosion.
There are more games to play against your friends, games like water polo, tag, etc. To get them all you have to do is just get further into the game (not hard since it’s also multiplayer Co-Op).
Conclusion
Echoes of Time, in my opinion, was not as good of a game compared to the original, but that’s not to say that this game is better in a different aspect, after all this is my opinion right?
Echoes of Time have is a great online wii game, letting your friends join you whenever they want. Then you would have many difficulty levels to play through the game with, not to mention all of the mini-games and quest you can play with your friends or just plain random people.
If you were to have a choice of getting echoes of time for the Nintendo Wii or DS I would recommend you to get the DS version, because it’s more mobile, you can join Nintendo WFC (and not only host them), and the wii version looks just like a ported version of the game from DS to Wii.
I would definitely recommend you to buy this game, but you can rent it at first at Gamefly Starting as low as $8.95 or Try For Free!
