Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!  Didn’t really watch the show, and barely played any of the games.  However what attracted me to this game was…

…it was similar to Super Smash Brother Brawls!  Mind you it has it’s own differences, but it feels like the multiplayer fighting Wii game we all know and love.

In this multiplayer Wii game, you’ll be faced with characters you would expect from it’s title and more!

Pro:
  • Fast and Furious combat (similar to Brawls and then some if you know what I mean)
  • If you know Super Smash Brother Brawls that means you know how to play this multiplayer Wii game
  • Pretty balance play
  • Fun ninja jutsu items!
  • Moving stages!
  • Multiplayer is fast, furious, and painfully fun!
  • There are wall action!
Con:
  • Controls don’t feel responsive
  • Compared to Super Smash Brother Brawl, not so great of a game

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up Gameplay

Controls

The control of this game is similar to Super Smash Brother Brawl, not saying that it owns the control, but yeah it’s very similar.

The building is going to burn down...

The building is going to burn down...

  • Pressing up will make you jump, doing it again will make you double jump.
  • A is light attack and if there is an item you’ll pick it up
  • B is heavy attack
  • Z is block and if you press a direction guess what happens?  You do-a-barral-roll!
  • Press down on the d-pad makes you use the items you picked up
  • A + B you’ll grab your friends for some painful punching fun.
  • Finally A or B + direction = a strong attack

Now doesn’t this seem pretty familiar?  Well if you played Super Smash Brother Brawl, it should!  If not, where have you been?

Gameplay

Now besides the point that the controls are very similar to Super Smash Brother Brawl, this multiplayer Wii game still have some of it’s own unique things.

Do these fighters know that this ship is going to sink?

Do these fighters know that this ship is going to sink?

Since this is a multiplayer fighting game that would mean you will battle on a stage with a pretty good wide choice of characters.

Now in the battle you’ll find yourself in stages that’ll move.  So if you don’t move with the stages you’re going to die!

Unlike Brawl you don’t have a % you have a health bar.  If you run out you die, and that’s where the difference ends.

You’ll find items like wind shield, lightning barrier, fire breath, my personal favorite, dimensional claw, and much more.

Finally in those moving stages you fight on there are a lot of jumping and running: from enemies that’ll instantly kill you and the wall!

The wall is your friend: you can jump on it and swiftly attack the opponent with a corkscrew attack at them!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up Multiplayer

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up does share some good points with Brawls, and that it’s a heck load of fun beating the crap (or being beaten the crap) out

of your friends.

What makes this more awesome is that you can go online and fight them, you don’t have to go to their house to play together (or maybe vise-versa).

All the modes mention here are included on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and offline.

Battle Royal

You know what this is, 4 players duke it all there are rules you can change, like lives, health, time limit, stages, and how to win (applies to all).

Swap Out

This is the mode where you and friends fight and the winner or loser swaps out.  You can swap more then 1 person.

This mode is pretty similar to rotation and Brawls.

Tournament

Guess what?  You and up to 7 other players will duke it out to see who’s the best fighter out of all of you!  Note: We’re not responsible for broken feelings or friendships

Survival

You have to keep on fighting enemies until you die.  Now sometimes you’ll get relief like pizza (which will heal you).  So keep on fighting soldier!

This mode is kind of similar to multi-man brawl.

Random Match

What do you expect?  You go online and you fight people around the country!

Conclusion

The characters are pretty evenly balance, and even though they have different movesets that sets them apart from each other, they are similar enough for you to easily adapt.

With similar range and attacks you’ll really have to bring your game on to win in this multiplayer fighting Wii game.

if you’re interested, you should buy this game, but you can rent it first at Gamefly starting as low as $8.95 or Try For Free!
