Being a former musician myself, I expected an edge in this game, and to a certain degree I did get that edge.  However in Wii Music you don’t need any music talents (or even ears for that matter), all you need to have is the want to play music, and a good sense of timing (tempo).

Wii Music is designed just for multiplayer!  They have all sorts of fun instruments and games for you to play in.  You can also make your “one hit blunder’ album.  The end result might be a mess of meowing sounds, but it’s fun.  Steve, quitter of all music, loves this game, and sometimes drags people to try and make his first “proper” album.  That has yet to happen, because we suck!

With all that being said unlocking new instruments and games aren’t that hard.  What you have to do is just try playing something for the first time, whether it is new games, or just music lessons.  Whatever it is you’ll have a beat with this simulation game!

Pro:
  • There are a lot of instruments you can play.  Anything from classical to rock, to annoying meowing sounds, there’s a lot.  66 total instruments I heard.
  • Bring your Mii to music school, and form a band of your own!
  • Random playing can sometime yield great results!
  • Make videos of your performance with your friends and rank it from 0-100
  • Very simple to get into
  • There are millions of ways to play every song available.  You could skip beats, add 100 more, or just play it the way you want to (just make sure no one gets annoyed)
Con:
  • You can’t make your own song L (although that would be kinda hard)
  • Simple is a double-edged sword, on one hand it’s easy, but if it’s too easy you get bored.

Wii Music Gameplay

Controls

There are 4 basic types of styles in this game.  Generally you just hold the Wiimote and Nunchuck like how you would hold the certain instrument.

The game isn't all about playing music! There are other games, and...failures...

The game isn't all about playing music! There are other games, and...failures...

  • Piano Type – This applies to drums too, just hit down with the Wiimote or Nunchuck to make music.  You can also hit them both at the same time.
  • Guitar Type – Hold the controls like a guitar and strung with the Wiimote.  By shaking the Nunchuck you can even produce things like vibrato.  Not to mention pressing buttons will add certain effects.
  • Trumpet Type – Play the Wiimote like a trumpet!  Press 1 or 2 to make music.  Holding your “instrument” up high will increase the volume while holding it down will decrease it.
  • Violin Type – Pretend that the Nunchuck is the violin, and the Wiimote is the bow.  With the Wiimote the faster you move the louder the sound is.  Pressing B, Z, or C will produce sounds.

Another cool control is pressing the D-Pad.  By pressing the D-Pad you can jump, do poses, and cause all sorts of effects to happen.  You can even cause explosions in this simulation wii game

Gameplay

See above. Looks like I went overboard this time, so yeah… you form bands, and play classic musics like Ode to Joy, and taking music lessons.  That’s where this multiplayer Wii games shines.

There is also a more realistic drum mode where you use the Wii balance board, but since I don’t have one, I can’t say much about it.

Wii Music Multiplayer

Wii Music offers a great variety of multiplayer since everything you can do is pratically multiplayer.  Everything, but the lessons…

It's The Attack of the Clones!

Jam Mode

In this mode you and your friends can play Instrument Improve, Quick Jam, and Custom Jam.

  • Instrument Improve – This mode lets you and your friends pick an instrument, and just practice with it.
  • Quick Jam – You and your friends just play a randomly selected music, with random instruments
  • Cusom Jam – You pick the song, tempo, players, instrument, and just about everything.  When you’re done, save it to a CD (in the game of course), and decorate the CD cover.  Isn’t this a fun Wii simulation game?

Game Mode

This is the other mode in the game.  Besides the usual play in a band thing as you would expect from this multiplayer Wii game, you can also play three other

games with your friends.  They are all music orientaed.  You can unlock the next level to the games by just simply beating each of the game.

  • Mii Maestro – This time you’re the conductor, and you tell the players when to play.  What’s the catch?  You have to conduct in time with your friends.  This is where the multiplayer gets really hard.
  • Handbell Harmony – Think DDR (Dance Dance Revolution), except with bells, and that there are 8 places for the bell to be ranged at.  You only have to worry about your own though so don’t worry.  As for me I’ll never beat this game…one of my controllers are broken…
  • Pitch Perfect – Don’t worry there’s nothing hard about this.  You don’t have to hear a pitch and then tell anyone what it is.  All you have to do is play match-up.  You’ll start each round with a objective.  It could be find the person with the matching pitch, or order the musicians pitch from lowest to highest.

All you have to move on and unlock new music and stages for this mode is to simply play through it once!  You might also unlock some cool things like, oh, I don’t know…LEGEND OF ZELDA!

Conclusion

Wii Music has a great multiplayer, especially if that’s what you’re after.  You can make music with your friends and family (or just loud music…), and 3 other fun game modes when you’re bored of making your own album.

Unlocking new songs and instruments in this game is pretty easy, as the game is more orientated in having fun, then working hard.  So with that this simulation Wii game won’t run out of new surprises for a long time.

Even after you unlocked everything there are still tons of neat instruments to play with.  One example is the cheer leader costume.  Who would have ever known that cheerleading can be part of a music?  Well maybe it’s not possible, but hey, it’s possible in this multiplayer Wii game!

if you’re interested, I recommend you to buy this game, but you can rent it first at Gamefly starting as low as $8.95 or Try For Free!
