NIGHTS: Journey of Dreams takes you into well…the dream world, called Nightopia. There you play as Night who “dualize” with the character you have chosen. Basically your chosen character can share Night’s body.
In Nightopia you fly through stages clearing obstacles and attacking baddies while soaring through the air (it’s more like a platform flying game rather than a 3-D go any direction you want game).

Nights: Journey of Dreams Story
The game has 2 main characters: Will and Helene. They both suffer from a increasing distance relationship with their parents, whom they were once close to. One day while they were sleeping these creatures called Nightmaren. They chased the character you choose to Nightopia where they meet Night.
With Night the character learns to dualize with them and learned about how this evil guy named Wizeman is planning to take over Nightopia and then enter the real world. And it’s up to Nights and friends to save the world.

Gameplay
After playing through the first mission, where you fly through hundreds of rings and defeat the boss at the end you get more missions to choose from.
When you select a mission you descend down to the level as the character you chose to play. You can hang around here and collect items, but you have a time limit.
Once you decide to continue to the mission you can climb up a chain to a cage where Nights is chilling in. You’ll immediately dualize with him/her (Night is genderless, but I heard his voice acting is a guy, or maybe it was the other way around…)
Once you dualize with Night you can start to soar through the air. You have to go through rings and collect orbs. As you continue to different worlds you encounter different things like following your reflection to get blue orbs, or transforming to other forms to reach places otherwise would be impossible.
Nights: Journey of Dreams Multiplayer
The game is probably dead online by the time this review is written, but I’ll talk about them anyways!
Offline
There are 2 modes you can play in one of them can be played online while the other can’t. The 2 modes are:
- Speed Mode – In this mode you can either race split screen with a friend or online with a friend or a random person. Just be the first one to fly through the stage going through the most rings to win.
- Battle Mode – This mode you smack a giant balloon back in forth between your friend. The person who gets hit (and does not hit back) loses.
Online
There are also 2 modes you can do online. The 1st one already mentioned is speed mode. The other mode is pretty cool. It’s called My Dream.
My Dream is a sandbox mode where you can play with all the captured creatures at Nightopia. You can feed them, play with them, and visit your friend’s dream in this mode. This mode is connected to the weather channel so the weather in the game should be accurate. There are also special things that happen on days like Christmas, Halloween, etc.
Conclusion
This is another one of the game where you should get only for the amazing music, inspiring story, and awesome gameplay. The controls might be hard to get into, but there are some easier alternatives for you if you want them.
The game itself doesn’t have much multiplayer things for you to do, but it does have a unique online mode called My Dreams which reminds me a lot of raising Chao’s in Sonic Adventure 1 and 2. Good times….
