This is a Gamefly Review – Click Below If You’re Looking For:
Being a member of Gamefly, I have rented many games, and know the ins and outs of the system. The service is great making renting fun, but they disappointed me at one point… Read on to find out more.
Gamefly allows you to rent Wii games and any other console games if you have it. Here’s a screenshot of what Gamefly looks like.
When I first saw Gamefly, they promised a price that’s less than $10 for a month, so I thought, why not? Gamefly has given me many games which I have reviewed in this site, so if you thought I actually own all of these games, you’re wrong.
However as I looked around the internet I have seen many biased reviews, that simply wanted to promote Gamefly. However I’m here to tell you the truth of Gamefly, the good and the bad.
So let’s begin shall we? First of all by being a member of Gamefly you’ll…
Gamefly: What Will You Get?
There are 4 main steps you’ll do in the “Gamefly cycle”, as I call it, which involves Gamefly sending the game to you all the way to you returning it.
Step 1: Picking The Game
To rent games with Gamefly all one has to do is find a game and then add it to your GameQ. Gamefly will then send you the first available game on your list.
When picking games, Gamefly offers many features:
- Over 7000 games to rent
- Player reviews along with professional critic reviews
- Gamefly images and videos of the game
- A Gamefly details of the game controls
- Player contributed hints, cheats, and guides
- Easy navigation that’ll help you find games that are categorized in easy to find sections
Check around, and you’ll find that Gamefly carries the largest amount of games. And when you click on the games you’ll see reviews, cheats, and videos for the game you chosen.
Step 2: Waiting For The Game
Gamefly claims that you’ll receive your game in 2-4 days, and from my testing with Gamefly it was true. For a while I return a game the moment I got it, and I
usually receive the next game in 4 days, sometimes it takes 5, but mostly 4 days.
A great feature that Gamefly offers in this is:
- E-mail notices when Gamefly receives the game and when they send you your next game
Here’s one of my disappointments that I encountered with this game in this section:
- The game you want to rent in your list might not be available so you won’t always get your first choice.
- This is even truer if you’re trying to rent a game that has just been release, most likely you won’t get the game anytime soon.
- Unfortunately as I found out a lot later, the longer you stick with Gamefly, the slower it takes for them to send you their next game
So while Gamefly does offer consistent shipping, sometimes you’ll be frustrated on the numbers of a game available for you to rent. What’s worse is that it appears as you become a loyal member Gamefly will treat you worse, offering slower shipping.
Step 3: Play As Long As You Want
When you receive your game from Gamefly you can play it as long as you want, and keep it as long as you want, as long as you still have membership.
- Unlimited play time with a game.
- Keep the game as long as you want.
- If you like it, keep it, for a fee that’s cheaper than in stores
When you get the game you can keep and play it for as long as you want. But if you like the game you can use the keep system, which basically let’s you buy the game for a price that you’ll probably never find in stores.
However another disappointment I met with this system is that:
- The game comes in a small envelope, which can easily be snapped or scratched if careless
- If the game is unplayable you must return it and wait another 2-4 days
You should be very careful with the game as it comes in a small little envelope. It might be scratched or worse broken before you even get it.
Step 4: Returning The Game
Once you’re done with the game you put it in a pre-stamp envelope that’s already provided when you got the game and put it in your mailbox.
There are great features in this step:
- Free return shipping
- A special FastReturn service which the post office, instantly notifies Gamefly that you returned the game and they’ll quickly send you your next game
Just with the FastReturn service you’ll cut away 2-4 days. So instead of waiting 2-4 days for Gamefly to receive it, you just have to wait 2-4 days for you to get your next game.
Bonus Features
Not only does Gamefly offer quality shipping they offer other features that makes the service the best, besides their flaws:
- Parent Control – This functions allows you parents to prevent certain games to be rented
- Gamefly Rewards – The longer you stay with Gamefly, the more Gamefly dollar you get. For every 3 month, you get 5 Gamefly Dollars, which acts like real money allowing you to buy their cheap game prices for an even cheaper price. You can also get certain % of the game off.
- Easy Cancel – Don’t like the service well no worries it’s easy to get out of the whole system, and there’s nothing to worry about.
- Introductory Fees – For new gamers they get to rent games for 8.95 for a whole month as opposed to the 15.95!
With great features like these, you can easily get into the game, and be awarded for its great features.
My Conclusion
While Gamefly does have several minor problems such as increasingly difficult shipping problems and scratchable games, it has great features that make up for all of it.
By staying with Gamefly you’ll be rewarded with Gamefly money, which is equivalent to real money. Gamefly also offer solid gaming rental services in the Gamefly cycle which allows you to get your game, play it, and then easily return it.
The best part of Gamefly is their FastReturn Service that allows them to quickly send your next game. No other rental service offers this type of capability!
Gamefly offers a cheaper membership for new people. This is your chance to save money from buying games by renting games.
