Super Mario Galaxy brings you to a intergalactic battle against Mario’s long time foe, Bowser, who once again, kidnapped Princess Peach.
This Nintendo game is just like Super Mario 64 as you actually roam around the stage stomping baddies, collecting coins, and getting stars. You’ll roam around in outer space, running around upside down, shifting gravity poles, and other fun stuff.
The game isn’t only limited to that though; as you’ll soon find out that the game also has tons of colorful different stages to go to.

Super Mario Galaxy Gameplay
Gameplay
Now let’s get to the juicy part. This game should mostly be purchased just for the 1 player experience, because this Nintendo game has lousy multiplayer options.
So once again this game is much like the old Nintendo 64 game Super Mario 64. You basically get to roam around and do as you please no 2-D platforming or anything else. Now that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist in this game (which it does), but you get the point.
You’re in an area called the Comet Observatory where you have to go to different galaxies connected to the place and collect the power stars.
In each stage you’ll have Health and when you run out you’ll die and use one of your lives and if you run out of lives you get a game over. Now you can easily recover health by collecting coins scattered around.
As you wander around the universe you’ll also find these items called star bits. Star bits are used for 2 things.
- They’re used to shoot at enemies
- You can feed these star shape creatures called luma’s, and when you fill them up they’ll blow up and unlock new universe for you to go to.
In each galaxy you’ll have different themes like, ice area, outer space, a giant lake area, etc. There are a lot of places! Not only do you simply beat bosses, or other things to get stars you can also look for them, or play fun mini-games to earn them.
Finally since the game resides in outer space you’ll have to experience the wonders of gravity. You’ll launch yourself into space with these star shape launchers. You’ll use the Wiimote to pull yourself from places to places with these blue stars, and you get to experience the joys of walking upside down!
Super Mario Galaxy Multiplayer
Unfortunately this Nintendo game has a lousy co-op mode. However if you think about it, I don’t think there was any way Nintendo could have put any type of Co-Op mode that’s quality meets with what we expect.
Multiplayer
Okay here we go… The multiplayer in this game involves either you or your friend playing Mario. What does the other person do? Well he fires Star bits at enemies. Does it suck? Is it boring? You bet it is. So buy the game only for the single player, not the multiplayer.
Conclusion
Super Mario Galaxy is a stupendous game. There really isn’t much that holds this game back as it’s got creative gameplay system and a whole bunch of things for you to do. After you beat the game there will be another gigantic secret that will literally make the game 2x bigger.
My only complaint in this game, besides the lack of a decent story, is the lousy multiplayer. Face it having a friend/family firing things at enemies that barely do anything is less entertaining then a person running through falling platforms.
