Multiplayer Wii Games FTW!

Worms: A Space Oddity

The worms are back, and they’re in another mess of trouble.  The Worms’s series started years ago and they’re still going strong with even some newer games then this one.

You’ll be fighting like most worms game: on a 2-D map.  Now this may come as a shock to you if your first Worms’s game was Worms 4: Mayhem, but that game was an exception to the series.

Like most Worms game the multiplayer aspects of this shooting game is going to be both intense and traditional.

Pro:
  • Create your own personalized Worms team
  • Fun multiplayer mode
  • Tons game modes in multiplayer mode to play with
  • There’s a level creator!
Con:
  • Lack of camera movements really restricts your ability to aim

Worms: A Space Oddity Gameplay

Controls

If you have played Worms before then this game isn’t that much different.  The only difference is to learn to use the Wiimote.

Water will kill your worms.

Water will kill your worms.

Anyways you don’t need a Nunchuck at all.  You move your character with the D-Pad.  Press A to jump.  You press – to choose from your available weapons, and you press + to zoom in or out of your map.  I would recommend you to zoom out as far as possible.

There are different types of weapons and tools.  Some require you to launch them with a certain amount of power and at a certain angle while others just require you to click somewhere, like the teleport tool.  Just equip it and then click where you want to warp to.

Now for those of you who don’t read the instructions you can easily see where your grenade or missile will end up by raising the power bar (by raising your Wiimote), and then holding the B button.  Then just swing it to see a dotted link of where it’s going to go. Now when you’re ready, swing and let go of the

B button.

Gameplay

Steve attacks himself!

Steve attacks himself!

The Worms are up to something again.  This time they managed to get themselves stuck on an unknown planet.  There they must find pieces of their rocket and fend off the hostile inhabitants to make it back home.

In each planet you go to (for really good reasons I assure you) there are 5 missions for you to do.  Once you finish them you unlock a mini-game award, which can later be played in the Mini-Game Mode they don’t require any normal shooting, but something different altogether from what you expect.

You’ll be shooting in a 2-D map with a team of customizable worms.  In the field items and health packs can drop by and you can snag these little buggers for

yourself.  You take turns attacking each other (Only 1 weapon/tool per turn).  You win by killing all other worms, either by knocking them into water or just plain kill them.

Worms: A Space Oddity Multiplayer

I know what you’re thinking this game would be great with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.  A whole bunch of other people and I would agree with you, because there

Steve really likes to kill himself...

Steve really likes to kill himself...

is no Nintendo WFC in this multiplayer shooting game.

Versus Mode

This is where you play with up to 4 players with computers if you want.  You can set the computers level to be a mastermind of the game, or just a plain idiot.  However the meat of this game is the ability to choose from one of the 8 game modes like: Close Combat or Big Bang.

Mini-Game

Here you can play all of the mini-games you unlocked in Story Modes (6) with your friends.  What they are however is up to you to beat the game to find out.

Conclusion

Worms: A Space Oddity is a great turn based shooter game.  In battles you retain the same old feel of the Worms’s game since it was first made, but with more colors and stuff.

The lack of weapons may get to some people (especially if they know they could’ve gotten more from this game), but at least you have some of the essential and classical weapons.

Having Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection could have added more replay value to this game, but still playing with your friends and family and watching them squirm and try to evade being killed by you is a blast!
